Search interest and news coverage measure different things

Understand what a search range, publisher count and collection timestamp can—and cannot—tell you.

Demand is not a survey

A reported Trending now range is not a count of unique people or a measure of support for a claim. Google-reported growth uses Google’s baseline. In 48HrsTrends, the underlying measurement period remains explicit even when a browsing view covers a shorter interval.

Coverage is a monitored sample

A publisher count describes approved reporting that 48HrsTrends found and matched. It does not count every article on the internet. Separate independent publisher groups from repeated URLs or syndicated copies, and distinguish relevant links from usable article text.

Compare compatible observations

Check the same country, episode and measurement basis. Coverage discovered later becomes known later; it must not be backdated into an earlier observation. Gaps, missing baselines and uncertain relevance should remain visible rather than being converted into a precise-looking score.
